Miniature stage!

      Things to do.

  • Collect materials.
  • Research scenery and miniature stages.
  • Sketch out and plan the layout.
  • Start process.
  • Write about finished product.

What and Why i choose to do it.

I've chosen to do a miniature stage set to transcribe the way i see the painting Ceres and harvesting cupids by Simon Vouet, I've decided to use poverty as my theme using skips and poverty ridden area's for reference.
My background for the stage will probably be based with photography but mixed media to give it a 3D effect, the aspect of the painting is the prosperity of Rome in the early 17th century its to show the freedom and life that Ceres has given them, A series of these paintings by Vouet were produced but Ceres and harvesting cupids seems to be the only remaining one.
I want to transform the painting into a poverty ridden scene with children scavenging and a women watching over them, To represent the cupids and Ceres.

I am using this link as a reference for help.

Inspiration for transcription

 Ceres and harvesting cupids.

 By Simon Vouet (1590 - 1649)

This painting is probably one of three carried out in or about 1634 for a small room in the Paris house of Claude de Bullion (1570 - 1640), the Superintendent of Finances to the Crown. In March of that year Vouet undertook to paint a series of canvases for the gallery of the house and other decorations for the adjoining rooms. Three paintings by him were later described as a Hunt, a Wine Harvest, and a Ceres with Cupids. The last may be the National Gallery painting. Neither of the others is known to survive.

This painting is noteworthy for the freedom with which it has been executed. It is designed as a landscape in a way developed in Rome in the early 17th century, with trees to each side framing a distant prospect in the centre. The naked figure of Ceres, goddess of the earth's fertility, is typical of the figures produced by Vouet and his studio. She sits to the right wearing a crown of cornstalks and observing the harvesters in the distance.

      Selected area of the painting
         Sketched by me.
(Quick sketch)

I was captivated by this picture because of the beauty but also the simplicity of the fields and the tree's.
The work almost looks unfinished and giving the more detailed Ceres a glowing look, I wanted to use this painting as inspiration for my transcription, Changing the surroundings and cupids to other states, such as some one in poverty searching for food or slaves being forced to work and gather crops.

My other ideas consist of reconstructing the painting into a sculpture or some sort of pop art.
Other artist that have inspired me are:Callo Crivelli,  Joseph Mallord William Turner,  Peter Paul Rubens, Hendrick Avercamp,  Gaspard Doughet.
All their paintings are found in the Nation Gallery.

Balance Sculptures

This peace of work was rather funny when constructed, I was just fiddling with the sticks when i managed to get two to balance..and naturally i took it as a challenge to make more balance on top and at the sides, Everyone i was working out was freaking out and panicking trying to get the camera out before the structure fell down but it managed to stay up for a while!

For this piece we decided to go outside, Seeing as it was such a lovely day no one objected...We decided to use bits of twigs, leaves and even lavender to form this structure showing the balance of nature and its beauty.
